Elder Service Providers September Lunch Meeting
The next ESP/WCTA lunch will be Wednesday, September 26th at Bob’s Burgers and Brew – downtown at Holly and Railroad from 11:30-1:00.
Our speaker will be Jen Mallet, owner of the “Sign by Sign” program and “Music Together by the Bay”.
Jen will be talking about the benefits of combining signing and music for better brain health. The combination is also an effective way to communicate with seniors, especially those with dementia. Jen’s goal is to develop an interactive, intergenerational program to bring seniors and children together.

Elder Service Providers October Lunch Meeting/Training Session
Our October Lunch will combine a special training opportunity. Teepa Snow will present a 90-minute training session “Answers to Tough Dementia Care Questions” on October 31, 2007, 10:30 am - Noon at St. Luke's Health Education Center, Room A, 3333 Squalicum Pkwy, Bellingham, WA. Cost: $15 per person ($10 per person if 3 or more are from the same organization). Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA, is a Dementia Care & Training Specialist. Teepa is an occupational therapist currently serving as the education director and lead trainer for the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. She is also a Counseling Associate for Duke University's School of Nursing. She has over 26 years of experience in the field of geriatrics.
Lunch follows from Noon to 1:00 pm, Cost: $10 per person. All are welcome to attend the training program and/or the luncheon.

Please note this program and lunch is scheduled for the 5th Wednesday instead of the usual 4th Wednesday.
Elder Service Providers 2008 Caregivers Conference
The 2008 Caregiver Conference will be held at the Christ the King meeting center, March 28, 2008. The theme will be "Caregivers--the 8th Wonder of the World." Please plan to attend, and consider being a sponsor, vendor, or speaker! Contact Mary.gould@comcast.net to ensure your company gets a spot on the 2008 ESP Tote Bag! Next Meeting will be Wed. Sept. 19th at 3:30 at The Coartyard- lattes will be provided for all attendees.
New Adult Family Home
A Loving Heart Adult Family Home is pleased to announce the licensing of our second home. We currently have an opening at both the Noon Road home and the Ridgewood Avenue home. Please contact Janet Arntzen at 393-4259 for more information or to set up a tour.
Alzheimer’s Association Western and Central Washington State Chapter
An advanced dementia care professional program will be held on September 17th, October 19th, November 16th, and December 21st in the St. Luke’s Community Health Education Center, 2901 Squalicum Parkway, Bellingham. A morning session from 10am to 1pm, and an afternoon session from 3pm to 6pm. Each session will qualify for 3 hours of continuing education for professionals. The program covers a review of dementia basics including updates, how to use the Positive Approach to Communication, and using Cues and Clues to resolve behavioral issues. Cost is $29.00 plus tax.
