Elder Service Providers November Lunch Meeting – Note the date change

November’s lunch meeting will be held Wed, November 19th from 11:30-1:00 at The Leopold. The speaker will be Rod Pemble from SSC to discuss their recycling program and its benefits. Ciao Thyme will be catering a delicious lunch! The cost is $12 per person.

Elder Service Providers normally meet the 4th Wednesday of the month. However, November’s meeting has been moved up to November 19th because of the Thanksgiving holiday. We’ll start 2009 with a luncheon hosted by Westford Funeral Home on January 28th.

Driving and Dementia Forum

Have you ever been concerned about an elderly person with dementia or some form of memory loss who is still driving? If so, please join the Driving and Dementia Forum on Thursday, November 13, 2008 from 2 pm to 3: 30 pm. This forum will be held at the Sedro-Woolley Senior Center at 715 Pacific Street, in Sedro-Woolley--one block North of State Street, near the library.

The Alzheimer’s Association is hosting this event in cooperation with Birchview Memory Care Community and Senior Services of Skagit County. Join us for a power point presentation followed by a panel discussion on how those in various professional capacities might assist those with dementia and their families, when making and implementing decisions about driving. Professional panelists include Barry Meyers, Elder law Attorney; Dr. Edwin Stickle; Lieutenant Tucker of the Sedro-Woolley Police Department; Dale O’Brien, Executive Director of Skagit Transit (SKAT); Pola Kelley, Allstate Insurance; and representatives from Washington State Department of Transportation and AARP. National Commemorative Candle Lighting

The program will include speakers, music, and a candle lighting ceremony in memory of those who are presently affected by Alzheimer's disease or other dementias and in memory of those who have been affected in the past.

Memory Awareness Screenings
November 18, 2008
In conjunction with National Memory Awareness Screening Day
10:30 am - 12:30 pm at St. Luke's Health Education Center, 3333 Squalicum Pkwy, Bellingham
1:30 - 3:30 pm at Bellingham Central Library, 210 Central Ave, Bellingham
The screening is non-invasive, non-threatening and takes only a few minutes.  Only you receive the results.
