Elder Service Providers Upcoming Events 

Member Relations Committee for ESP invites members and potential members to a no host luncheon at Bob’s Burger and Brew in Burlington.

This is the first Skagit County Elder Service Providers meeting.
We will be discussing the benefits of membership, announcing upcoming events for 2007. This will be a great opportunity for networking with others in our communities that work with seniors.

Elder Service Providers Quarterly Meeting

When: Oct. 23rd      3pm-5pm
Where: Broadway Hall (Coroner of Holly and Broadway)
1300 Broadway, Bellingham
Guest speaker: Sue Anderson from the Coalition for Healthy Communities
Sue will be discussing the Leadership Whatcom program and Whatcom counts programs.
Refreshments are provided!!

All members are encouraged to attend the quarterly meeting to listen to educational and motivational speakers. This is a free event and is part of Elder Service Providers membership benefits.  This is also a networking opportunity for members.

Programs Committee is currently seeking members that would enjoy planning events such as the upcoming Professional Dinner in January and the BBQ in July.

Caregiver Conference

It's that time of year that your ESP conference committee is working hard to create the 2007 Caregiver Conference.  We will be holding this year's conference on Friday March 16, 2007 at, CTK Conference Center, as we did last year.  We are very excited to have Shelly Zylstra for this year's Keynote Speaker.

Once again we have a great Tote Bag to give our attendees, and what we need now is your support.  This is a great opportunity for your business to be imprinted on 850 bags that will be seen all over Whatcom and Skagit Counties.  Any left over bags will distributed at Senior Day in the Park in Ferndale during August 2007.  Over 400 seniors from Whatcom, Skagit, Island and Snohomish Counties and also our Canadian neighbors attend this Ferndale event. 

The cost of sponsorship is only $150.00 and we have room for 30 sponsors to go on the bag. To take advantage of this opportunity, please e-mail Cindy Sherwin at cindy@cindysherwin,com with the information below by November 10th, 2006 to insure your placement on the bags.

Community Events

Free Lecture:  “Diagnosis and Care for Persons with Memory Loss”

St. Joseph Hospital Adult Day Health is inviting family and professional caregivers to a free lecture, “Diagnosis and Care for Persons with Memory Loss”. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Kristoffer Rhoads, Clinical Neuropsychologist, University of WA School of Medicine. The lecture will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2006 from 3:30 to 5:30 PM at St Joseph Hospital Adult Day Health, South Campus, 809 E. Chestnut, Bellingham, WA.

Attendees will learn about normal and abnormal memory changes, when and how to seek help, diagnostic tests and current treatments. In addition, representatives from community agencies will speak about the many support services available for people with memory loss and their families.

Quilt to Remember Project

Alzheimer Society of Washington has completed an 8' by 8' quilt with over 240 names written on it.  The quilt has been forwarded to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America in New York where it will be added to a collection of other quilts from across the nation. These quilts will be displayed in the U.S. as well as in Europe.  The first showing of the quilt collection will be in Central Park in New York.  We are pleased to be a part of this Alzheimer's awareness project.

Hoagland Pharmacy welcomes Karla Stanton!  Karla comes to our pharmacy from Fort Collins, CO.  She has a wealth of experience in a variety of fields and will be concentrating her efforts in our Retail Pharmacy located on 2330 Yew St, Bellingham, WA.  Karla is a certified compounding technician, marketing representative, wound care consultant, certified compression hosiery fitter, and Medicare/Medicaid billing specialist.  Her knowledge and experience in Durable Medical Equipment is yet another strength that she has brought to our team.
